A Friend Asks About SEO

Thanks for your interest in my book.

About your question: “Will your book tell us everything we need to know ??”

I describe my book as going through the basics on getting “found” on the search engines, and explained in laymen’s terms.

Of course getting “found” means showing up on page one and hopefully at the top of page one on the first ten “free” Google Search results.

It’s referred to as SEO (Search Engine Optimization).

You “optimize” your website to get on top.

The book gives examples and tips – therefore, your marketing manager can use them to either (A) be armed with enough information to select and communicate with a good “Internet Marketing” company.  Or (B) as a entry point into learning and doing more on their own.

It’s not rocket science and pretty easy stuff actually. (the book is only 100 pages)

About your question: “We have been paying $300/month for Google Ad Words and I want to get your opinion on better options.”

My book does not go into the Google Adwords program.  I do believe that there is a return on your investment with a proper Google Adwords program.

I would not recommend stopping that – if it is paying for itself.

However – being at the top of the search results is 100 times more powerful – so I would strive for that, in combination with an “effective” Google Adwords program.

Please note: There is a section on YouTube on my website www.GTROG.com that is not in the book.  It imperative that you start a properly optimized YouTube video program and then “host” those YouTube videos on your website.  You can find instructions under “YouTube SEO” on the book website – left column.

I am also now recommending websites be converted to a “WordPress” blog – as a long term strategy – Google LOVES Blogs and WordPress is the original blog building program, which has evolved into a full blown website design platform now.

In fact – when you go to my book website – you will see the verbiage of this email copied and pasted on the top “post” – see how easy it is to make blog posts – filled with juicy keywords : )

You can order my book on Amazon. (link on the left)

Pay special attention to the chapter on “Google Images” that is the most overlooked opportunity.

For example – the logo on your home page is named “#@%staffing.jpg”  I suppose that’s better than calling it “homepagelogo.jpg” (like most companies do) – but still – new clients are not searching for “#@% Staffing” – (I’m guessing here) but they might be searching for “Staffing New York” so it could be named “staffing-new-york.jpg”  (notice the use of hyphens and NOT spaces and NOT running the words together.)

Then your image of the New York skyline is called “home_skyline_new.jpg”  again – for sure “New-York-staffing.jpg” would be better. (notice that that is a completely different file name than “staffing-new-york.jpg”   - you can get creative with this : )

No Sound from Microsoft Update – Thanks

Microsoft downloaded their weekly updates and many people lost their sound system.

Easy fix – look for “system restore” located in Accessory/System Tools/System Restore.

Restored back to Thursday of last week and the sound system works great now.

Back Link Anatomy – Understanding The Value Of An Incoming Link to Your Website

The anatomy of a link can be thought of in five parts: anchor text, trust, relevance, placement and outbound links. Each one makes up a piece of the link pie.

I already know what you are thinking- what about authority? The five pieces of the pie mentioned above are what make the pie, but authority is what determines the size of the pie.
