Hi, Classmates are asking me how they get on West Liberty’s face book that I created. I don’t know what to tell them. I get on it by going to my groups and clicking on it. How does one get on a group site for first time. I said anyone could get on it for now. I may change this as I have gotten request from graduates that I don’t even know to be on my FB. Can’t they get on group without being on my FB? I don’t want people to have to go thru me.
Mom
Answer:
First and foremost – no, if they are not your friend on Facebook, they can’t see what you do with your Facebook friends “only”, even though you are both members of the same group. Second, Yes – they can join the group individually, without being your friend.
They have two options to locate the group – notice that big ass search bar on the top of Facebook? They could just search ( West Liberty State College Dental Hygiene Class of 1960 ) without the parenthesis.
Number two – you could just give them the link: http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=110385815652585
and that will take them directly to it.
I simply copied and pasted it from the Internet Explorer (web browser) address bar, when I was on your group page.
You might want to copy and paste this link yourself, into a word doc and save it for future reference. I have noticed that sometimes when you are logged on and you go to your own group, it puts a funny web address up there – not sure why – sometimes I have to fist go to the Facebook “Home” Page and then do a search for my group, then getting there from the home page (versus my profile page) gives me the correct address in the top bar – Facebook, is not intuitive on so many levels – I am surprised.
The address (as listed above) in the web browser’s address bar is actually the web address (if you will) of your group.
I would really like to post your question on my book blog and have you ask it there.
Hi Just one more question . What if they aren’t on FB -can people still get on link to group or do they have to actually join FB.
No – they have to be a member of Facebook (and logged on). They can view your Page, just can’t comment or do much else.
