How often should I be submitting my website to the search engines?

You can find the answer to this on page 38 in the book. Bottom line – it’s a moot point to submit anything to the search engines. I have not heard of them penalizing for multiple entries – but maybe so, if they think you are spamming them. Either way, it’s a waste of time.

The search engines will find you, as soon as they crawl another website that has linked to yours (Backlinks) – Probably the quickest and simplest way for them to find you is to set up your Google Places page (and be sure to put your web address in Google Places) – or your Facebook business s Page and be sure to put your web address in it.

To Find Out if you have been indexed by Google
Type “site:www.yourdomain.com” (without quotes) into Google’s search box – If your website comes up in the search results – Bingo – you have been indexed

Getting quality backlinks are the best way of getting indexed in Google. Participate in forum postings, blog commenting and also concentrate on article submissions.

* The best and the fastest way to get indexed and increase your search engine ranking is to get incoming links (backlinks) to your website from websites with a related subject matter. Even better if the incoming links haves the text you are trying to rank for as the “anchor text” of the link, it will help you to get indexed and thereby rank higher for that search term. Ask the site linking to you to make the anchor text the live link “Click here to get more info about (substitute your keywords here)” Also understand that nothing is instant, Google loves content so first Google will index your domain name then your title then sub title then keywords and so on.

Great places to submit you Domain name for a backlinks

Digg
Submitting Articles to your Industry Trade Publications
Classified ads (I have even used Craig’s List)
Hub pages
Press release
Forum posting
Social bookmarking
Squidoo lens
Directory submission (If you are a realtor try to submit to real estate directories)
Video Submissions (Video with the right optimization in the Title are great for ranking – be sure to put your link in the video description as http://www.yoursite.com and not just www – the http:// makes it a live link)

BTW – If any company offers to “Submit your website to the major search engines” (weather they charge or not) that is a clue that they don’t know what they are doing – if a web designer is any good, they’ll get you backlinks the right way – FISH FOR THEM any way you can – except stay away from link sharing farms – bad!

    Vivien Asks:

Hi, Greg – me again! I just got my 25th “Like” to my Facebook business page and I don’t want to screw up renaming it. I’m attaching it and wondered if you would be so kind to give me some guidance as to renaming. I think you said we should not use the company name? As you can see, it does display what I do after the company name.
I hope you don’t mind my bothering you with this….
    thanks!

Hey Vivian – be sure to read the FAQ Facebook links I put on my book blog for the class.

You are not renaming your page title “It’s About Time!, Austin Personal Assistant and Concierge” you are picking your Own URL “web address” (Facebook calls it a “User Name”). For Example mine for my laptop stand is http://www.facebook.com/laptopstand

Notice how I named mine with my most important keywords “Laptop Stand”? You’re going to have to figure out what your most important keyword or words are – and hopefully no one else has taken them yet.

BTW – if you are going after local Austin business, then I would put the word Austin first in your username http://www.facebook.com/austin…………….
