  • I am building my website and was wondering…

Would maintaining several website names that immediately redirect the user to one “main” website hurt an SEO effort on that main website?

Thanks, in advance, for your response.

Great question. If you redirect the websites properly no harm will be done at all. It’s called a 301 Redirect and your hosting service should have simple instructions on how to do that.

Curious – why are you using several URLs – I do this as well – but would be interested in your thoughts – Boy I need to change the background color of these comment sections!

  • Now that I feel comfortable that a redirect won’t hurt my SEO effort, I will surely do it. I have two reasons: To monopolize website names that are close to my core business model website, and to cast a slightly wider net on customers.

    Thanks again.

Great – it’s my understanding that the URL you apply the 301 redirect on will not gain SEO value – because they aren’t actually websites – just URL address redirected (I could be wrong on this and I have seen a few articles that say they will build SEO value) Just my opinion. I decided to make an acronym for the book http://www.GTROG.com my 301 redirect to my book website – just because it’s easier to remember, type, and I plan on making that my brand.

  • Hi, Greg. I just got my 25th “Like” to my Facebook business page and I don’t want to screw things up when I rename it. Could you please give me some guidance as to renaming-or what not to do? I think you said we should not use the company name? thanks!
